Geschiedenis
Virginia is een van de oorspronkelijke dertien koloniën en speelde een cruciale rol in de Amerikaanse geschiedenis. Het was de locatie van belangrijke gebeurtenissen zoals de eerste permanente Engelse nederzetting in Jamestown in 1607 en de geboorteplaats van verschillende Amerikaanse presidenten, waaronder George Washington en Thomas Jefferson.
De staat was ook een belangrijk strijdtoneel tijdens de Burgeroorlog, met veel historische locaties en slagvelden die bewaard zijn gebleven voor bezoekers. Vandaag de dag wordt de rijke erfgoed van Virginia gevierd door middel van talrijke musea, historische huizen en culturele festivals.
